Cancun proper is divided into the city and the "hotel zone." The hotel zone is almost entirely resort, the community is a distribution of restaurants, shopping, and living space. Mexican coin looks very close to the Canadian toonie.

• The hotel zone and gorgeous beaches.

• Inexpensive and tasty quesedillas.

• Plaza Las Americas, if you like shopping.

• 307 through the city of Cancun.

• Polite locals.

Be careful of:

• Curious young people.

• Don't bother the Mexican women.

• Unusually charming police.
